Athlete recovery was assessed in fifteen elite female athletes during a fourteen-day sanatorium programme. The publication examines physiological changes after a combined course, rather than testing one isolated recovery procedure against a parallel control group.

The athlete recovery programme

The participants represented several sporting specialities. Their programme combined oxygen procedures on Oxyterra, carbon-dioxide mineral baths, climate therapy and therapeutic walking. Consequently, the intervention should be understood as a package that included changes in routine and several rehabilitation components.

What the researchers measured

The assessment covered oxygen saturation, heart-rate variability and haemodynamic indicators. In addition, the authors examined respiratory measures. These outcomes describe functional state during recovery, but they are not direct measurements of race performance, injury prevention or long-term sporting achievement.

Main observations

The authors report favourable changes in some functional indicators following the programme. However, the respiratory system did not show statistically significant changes in the supplied account. It is therefore important to preserve the difference between outcomes that changed and those that did not.

What cannot be separated

There was no described parallel control group, and several components were delivered together. As a result, the study cannot identify the independent effect of Oxyterra or of a particular oxygen regimen. Ordinary recovery, reduced training strain and the other treatments may also have contributed.

Meaning for sports practice

Overall, the publication illustrates a structured, supervised recovery setting for high-level athletes. It offers useful measures for planning further research, but not proof of a stand-alone performance benefit. A stronger comparison would distinguish individual programme components and include outcomes relevant to training availability and competition.

Context and further reading

The following pages describe equipment, oxygen-phase technology and supervised recovery applications. Related finswimming publications concern different training settings, so they provide additional context rather than direct replication of this sanatorium programme.
