Clinical effects of hypoxic training are summarised in a review of publications from 2000–2025. The authors discuss chronic non-communicable diseases and programmes alternating hypoxia with recovery periods. The article does not separately analyse recovery in normal versus increased oxygen, an important limitation for interpreting IHHT.

Scope of the literature search

The review concerns clinical publications and excludes conference abstracts. Cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and metabolic disorders feature among the topics. The authors describe growing research interest, but the volume of literature is not equivalent to a large body of directly comparable controlled clinical evidence.

Clinical effects of hypoxic training: distinctions

IHT and IHHT differ in their reoxygenation phase. Because this review does not separate those phases in its synthesis, a favourable finding from IHT cannot automatically be attributed to IHHT. Exposure at rest and exposure combined with exercise likewise require separate consideration.

How to interpret broad conclusions

The reviewed studies differ in diagnoses, programmes and outcome measures. A response in one condition does not establish the same effect in another. Functional performance, symptoms and laboratory markers should retain their own meanings rather than merge into one general claim that hypoxia treats chronic disease.

Avoiding double counting

Several primary studies discussed in the review also appear as separate library articles. Repeating their findings in a review does not create independent confirmation. Readers should identify the underlying participants and design before deciding how many distinct studies support a particular statement.

Conclusion

The publication maps clinical research directions and helps identify where more precise comparisons are needed. It is not an OXYTERRA device trial or a pooled proof of one universal regimen. The original text provides the complete study discussions, references and terminology used by the authors.

Context and further reading

Technology explains the difference between IHT and IHHT. Applications presents clinical contexts, while the product page describes OXYTERRA RS equipment separately from this broad literature overview.
